Winter 2021
At APS we embrace slow fashion. Quick, disposable trends have no place in the fine jewellery business! That said, as temperatures decrease, certain accessories become the sartorial heroes of our winter wardrobe, and add some much needed glamour to our greyest months. APS provides a shortlist of tried and tested jewellery classics perfect for colder climes.
YELLOW-GOLD
Classic and endlessly versatile, the glowing warm properties of yellow
-gold are perfect for lifting spirits (and looks) on dreary days. In typical Melbourne fashion, the majority of us will be playing it safe with a palette of black and navy when the temperatures drop, making the ideal monochromatic backdrop for a glamorous gold accessory.
CHAINS
To balance out the multiple layers and darker colour palette required to survive the winter season, our jewelry needs to be a little more substantial, moving away from lace thin chains and fine rings, to heavier, bolder designs capable of providing a punch, even when it is raining. In keeping with 2021's genderless design aesthetic, a chunky chain is a welcome addition, with enough bulk to stand out against your thick knit jumper, but glamorous enough to transition from the workplace to the bar. The chunky chain, worn either as a necklace or bracelet works well as a standalone piece, with the added benefit of not getting tangled as you inevitably remove your coat five times a day.
WIDE BAND RINGS
Multisex accessories are becoming increasingly common place within the fashion industry, with many designers choosing to show collections modelled by both men and women. After dominating the jewellery world for the last few years, highly feminine stacking rings are gradually being replaced by strong, masculine accessories suitable to be worn singularly whilst still making a sartorial impact. Wide gold bands, such as the APS signature Ruby ring, has the perfect combination of masculine design with a luxury edge. Studded with tiny ruby stars on a brushed gold surface, and inspired by our beloved rescue Dog Ruby, the Ruby ring was made to be a stand out piece.
STATEMENT EARRING
The statement earring is probably the easiest way to elevate an outfit, especially when you want to keep life simple and wear your hair up. As we transition into a more practical wardrobe better suited to preventing wind chill, your jewellery is an opportunity to add some flair. APS favour pink or orange tones this time of year, especially around the face when we are in need of some extra warmth sans sunshine. Citrines and Spinel are particularly beautiful and can come in an rainbow of colours from soft-pastel blue to fiery orange, though if you are more inclined to wear white gold, the forever chic purple-grey spinel gemstone makes a striking addition to a drop earring.
GOBSTOPPER PEARLS
If you would like to avoid the heavier hardware popular this year, you can always return to the fine jewellery classic; pearls. Though these opalescent beauties are a fail safe throughout the year there is something undeniably chic about a high neckline dress worn with a decadent pearl at the throat, (see Audrey Hepburn if you need convinced further). From peacock black to luxurious champagne, pearls can come in an incredible array of shades, so it is worth taking the time to find the tone that works for you and consider making an investment in a pearl you can wear every winter.
APS specialise in creating pieces which showcase the unique beauty of each pearl, as each has its own individual beauty and way of playing with light, making them a beautiful centrepiece to your evening outfit.
